Wow.

Lots of news in the cerebral palsy arena these days. A few different stories came over the wires this weekend and I thought that I would share them with you guys.

First, a story about an Amesbury teen getting a new wheelchair. Wayne Day received a Cougar wheelchair after he applied for assistance through a local charity.

Wayne's mother says, "The wheelchair has made a huge difference to Wayne's life."

The wheelchair was donated to Wayne's family by Caudwell Children, a charity that helps provide specialist equipment and therapy for the sick and disabled children in UK.

And in other cerebral palsy news, researchers from the University of Adelaide in Australia have launched a study in an attempt to better understand the possible genetic causes of cerebral palsy.

This study required cheek swabs from mothers and their children and aimed to gather genetic samples from 10,000 people right across Australia.

They have already established links between cerebral palsy and different types of herpes virus infections...such as cold sores and chicken pox.

According to researchers, if they confirm that there are genetic mutations that can lead to cerebral palsy, specific disease preventions may be available for individuals.
